The European Parliament again calls for the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to Schengen.
Such a decision was adopted by the parliamentary committee on petitions on Tuesday. The decision was adopted by 25 votes "for", while no one voted "against" and those who "abstained". It is expected that the members of the European Parliament will turn to the Council of the EU with a request to approve the entry of the two countries into the Schengen zone by the end of the year.
According to the Commission's assessment, Bulgaria and Romania are ready to join the Schengen area, and the European Parliament has repeatedly supported their accession, most recently in a resolution of 5 October 2022 and during a debate on 14 December 2022, the European Parliament said in a statement.
